Amtran to soon extend hours, route, official confirms

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. — Amtran will be extending operating hours on their existing routes beginning this June as well as adding a new route that extends to Bellwood and Tyrone, according to Amtran CEO Josh Baker. According to Baker, Amtran implemented a Transit Development Plan that began in 2021 and ended in late 2022 that focused on analyzing current service efficiencies and potential growth opportunities and that they continue to develop short, mid and long term plans that derive from the development plan. Bellefonte church gives free clothes away

BELLEFONTE, Pa. (WJAC) — One church in Bellefonte held its regular clothing bank Saturday, where folks could get all kinds of clothes for free. "They wanted someplace for the local people to come, who didn't have to pay for any clothing," Cathy Torsell, the event's organizer, told 6 News. She said the clothing bank started with two members of the St. John's United Church of Christ around 2017. Deadly Birt Coal Mine explosion

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — This week’s look into our archives takes us to a mine tragedy 61 years ago. A blast inside a coal storage silo, near Riverside in Cambria County, killed three construction workers. Our film crew was there, documenting what happened soon after the explosion on January 18th, 1963. Reports at the time say the force blew the lid off the top of the 80-foot-tall bin.
